One of New York’s best kept secret free bands. This ensemble has beenaround since 1994. It was founded by David Gould with original members Matthew Heyner, Mateen and Gould. Working occasionally, the band was originally a workshop band of improvised music.
Some of the musicians who came through, some known, most unknown to the public were, Daniel Carter, Reuben Radding, Paul Hoskins, Electric Bassist Gary Miles, Guitatist Gary Heidt, Anders Niellson, Bassist Clayton Thomas, Trumpeter James Duncan, Flautist and Dancer Laurie Hockman, David Nuss, Micha Gaugh, Ras Moshe, Steve Swell, Frode Gjerstad and many others.
Heyner left the band in 2002 and Jackson replaced him in 2006 and Lavelle has been playing in the band since 2003 replacing Duncan. Since 2006 the personnel has been the same. East 3rd Street is an Infamous block (between 1st and 2nd Avenues, where the band rehearse every Wednesday since ’94). In the ’60’s many of the "first wave" free Jazz musician eith liver or passed through and played on this block. They include: SUN RA, DAVE BURRELL, HENRY GRIMES, SONNY SHARROCK, MARION BROWN, PHAROAH SANDERS, LEWIS WORRELL, ALBERT & DON AYLER, FRANK WRIGHT, SUNNY MURRAY and many others. The Hell’s Angels have lived on this street since that time and still reside there.
